Hoping to upgrade my hairstyle repertoire, I googled tutorials and YouTube videos for braids and buns of all kinds. French braids were nice. Fishtail braids were manageable. Dutch braids still make no sense. All of these braids took me some time to do, and I wanted a quick, easy way to put my hair up. I had a chemistry lab and forgot to bring a hairtie– could my pencil work?

Luckily, WikiHow has surprisingly intuitive tutorials that actually work. The best option is to buy a hairstick, which is thin and tapered on the end for easy use. Impromptu household materials like pencils and chopsticks also work. Traditional pencils work better than plastic or metal mechanical pencils.

Here are two basic hairstyles I learned:

The Pencil Bun:

1. Twist all of your hair into a coil.
2. Wrap the coil around the back of your head like you’re making a bun
3. Use one hand to keep the bun in place. Grab a pencil with the other.
4. Weave the pencil between the bun and hair on your scalp for maximum security.

The Faux French Twist:

1. Gather your hair into a ponytail and hold the pencil above the ponytail. The pointy end should be pointing to the left.
2. Coil your hair around the pencil.
3. Turn the pencil with the hair coiled around it until the pointy end is pointing up
4. Invert the pencil and push it down until the end of the pencil is pointing down. The hair should be secured in a nice twist.

Don’t worry if it takes a while to get the hang of these styles. It seems tricky at first when your hair is slipping around, but the friction between your hair and the pencil will ultimately hold it together. Sometimes it takes experimenting with different buns to find the sweet spot. They can hold up for many hours if you don’t move around much! Once you master these simple hairstyles, you can explore a plethora of more advanced ones on YouTube.

Hairstyles have been secured with sticks for millennia in many civilizations. Remember, you are welcome to try hairstyles from different cultures as long as you are respectful. You can stand out and tap into traditions by trying out these styles.

I recently ordered a new bra, and in the spirit of sharing, I have written an honest review of the Bleuet Bleum Active Bra

I ordered this bra after my cousin told me she had bought one. It arrived really quickly and the packaging is really cute. It also came with 3 cute cloth bracelets, or maybe they are hair ties (see photos below). I got a size 18 (the fit guide said it is for someone 34AA-C). I am a 34B, and I am a senior, almost 18. The fit is perfect.

I got it in the white/pink color and it is reversible, so you can wear it with either the pink or white showing. It’s cute enough to wear under exercise tanks or a regular shirt or dress. You can criss-cross the straps or just keep them regular. I’ve worn it to dance and it is supportive enough, but not too tight.  It’s actually really comfortable and soft — I barely even feel like I’m wearing it.

Overall I would give it 5 stars, and I will probably order in more colors! They have lots of other styles too, and they are especially designed for teens. I highly recommend!

For many people, the way they dress is an expression of who they are. From workplace uniforms to personal and seasonal aesthetics, fashion showcases more than just clothes and taste: it reflects culture, values, and even the unspoken rules of society and their evolution. What we wear tells stories of belonging and rebellion, of privilege and struggle, and of tradition and change.

The Many Eras of Fashion

Fashion reflects the motion of society. In one era, corsets and layers represented discipline, hierarchy, and restraint. In another, flapper dresses and bobbed hair captured a thirst for freedom and defiance.

What follows is a cycle of rebellion and reinvention.

The 1960s saw miniskirts and vivid, psychedelic colors that challenged authority, while the 1990s turned to minimalism and grunge as a rejection of excess. Today, no single look defines us. With aesthetics and inspiration all around us, everyone chooses to dress in the way they desire or feel most comfortable. No style is less sparkling, and none is more desirable. To trace the history of fashion is to trace the history of ourselves.

People as Fashion

Fashion is not necessarily clothing, but rather an extension of our personalities. People wear their identities on their sleeves, quite literally. Bold prints for the unapologetic, muted tones for the introspective, experimental cuts for those unafraid of standing out. Words fail to do justice at times, and that is where fashion makes the statement.

In today’s world, conversation evades us, but we are told that first impressions are the longest lasting. The way a person chooses to express themselves in clothing is now an acceptable form of first impression, as it provides insight into a person’s preferences that small talk may never achieve. Perhaps causing presumptions, but a choice of clothing can demand respect, spark curiosity, and create distance in unspeakable ways.

History also reminds us of times where kindness is represented in simple acts surrounding fashion. During the Great Depression, when families repurposed flour and potato sacks into dresses, some companies began printing floral or patterned designs on the fabric, allowing those less fortunate to still dress with grace. It emphasizes the importance of fashion to the world and how a good dress can lift your spirits despite the losses that surround you. Fashion, at its heart, is not about luxury but humanity and expression. We have specific clothes for mourning, weddings, comfort, and exuberance, all so we can say unspoken things in the simplest way imaginable.

Accessorizing!

Accessories are often the final touch– the mood-based decision, the grab-and-go. In truth, though, they are so much more; a simple dress can shift from casual to commanding with the addition of pearls, a leather belt, or statement shoes. Beyond terms of added personalization, they can hold political weight. The suffragette’s sash, the Black Panther’s beret, or even a simple safety pin have all served as silent yet powerful symbols of resistance and solidarity. Oftentimes, campaigners release accessories to allow people to show public support for their beliefs and values.

At the height of couture, accessories become icons in themselves. Think of the Birkin by Hermes, the quilted shoulder bag by Chanel, the red-bottomed Louboutins, or the Unique Bee by Gucci. These pieces remind us that the smallest elements of fashion can leave the most enduring cultural imprint. Sometimes, even art is centered around an accessory, as seen in the Girl with the Pearl Earring by Johannes Vermeer. Accessories are never extras- they are statements, identities, and beliefs.

The Fabric of Who We Are.

Let’s look at it simply: have you ever dressed for an occasion? Have you had preferences in color, material, or style? Yes, you have taken part in fashion. It is not a distant world of designers and couture, but every choice you make in what you wear. Every person wakes up and chooses what to wear for the day, taking part in this magnificent world where what you wear is part of who you are.

Fashion reflects our society because it reflects us.

Learn how to accessorize and add flair to your clothes to create a signature style that’s totally you.

The post Accessorizing 101: How to Find Your Signature Style appeared first on GirlSpring.

]]>
Finding your unique fashion voice through accessories can feel like navigating a maze of endless options. However, knowing how to find your signature style through accessorizing becomes much easier when you break it down into manageable steps.

The right accessories transform basic outfits into fashion statements that reflect your personality. Whether you’re heading to class, hanging out with friends, or attending special events, the accessories you choose tell your story before you even speak.

Match Your Lifestyle and Daily Activities

Your signature style should complement your actual life, not conflict with it. If you spend most of your time at school, choose accessories that won’t get caught in locker doors or distract you during presentations.

Consider your daily routine when selecting pieces. Athletic girls might gravitate toward sporty watches and minimalist jewelry, while creative types might love layered necklaces and unique hair accessories.

Identify Colors That Make You Glow

Colors have the power to make you look radiant or washed out. Stand in front of a mirror with good lighting and hold different colored fabrics near your face. Notice which shades make your eyes pop and your skin look healthy.

These colors should dominate your accessory collection:

  • Warm undertones: Gold jewelry, coral, and warm browns
  • Cool undertones: Silver jewelry, blues, and cool grays
  • Neutral undertones: Both gold and silver work beautifully

Once you identify your best colors, shopping becomes much simpler because you can focus on pieces that flatter you.

Start With One Statement Piece

Building your personal styling approach works best when you focus on one standout accessory per outfit. These could be bold earrings, a chunky necklace, a colorful scarf, or an interesting bag. The statement piece becomes the focal point of your outfit, while other accessories should support rather than compete with it.

This prevents your look from becoming overwhelming while allowing you to experiment with different fashion accessories. You’ll also get more wear out of each piece since they won’t be fighting for attention.

Mix Textures and Materials Thoughtfully

Combining different textures adds visual interest to your outfits without requiring expensive pieces. Pair smooth metals with rough fabrics, or combine soft scarves with structured bags. The key lies in maintaining balance rather than throwing together random textures.

Experiment with unexpected combinations, such as leather and lace, or denim and silk. These contrasts create dynamic looks that showcase your creative side.

Care for Your Investment Pieces

Quality accessories deserve proper attention to maintain their appearance and longevity. Protect and care for your jewelry by storing pieces separately to prevent scratching, cleaning them regularly, and removing them before swimming or showering. Well-maintained accessories always look more expensive and polished.

Create a simple routine for accessory care. Wipe down metal pieces after wearing them, store delicate items in soft pouches, and rotate your collection to prevent excessive wear on favorite pieces.

Build a Versatile Foundation Collection

Your signature style develops over time, so focus on building a foundation of versatile pieces that work with multiple outfits. Classic items, such as simple stud earrings, a quality watch, and a neutral handbag, form the backbone of any accessory collection.

From this foundation, you can add personality through seasonal pieces, trendy items, and unique finds that reflect your evolving taste. The goal involves creating a collection that feels authentically you while remaining practical for your lifestyle.

Finding your signature style through accessories becomes an exciting journey of self-expression when you approach it systematically. Your style will evolve as you grow, and that’s exactly how it should be.

As fall breezes in, football season has officially begun, and homecoming is just around the corner. Time to start dress shopping! Online dress shopping is fun because you can order a variety of dresses to choose from and return (or sell!) what you don’t pick. Here are five of my favorite online dress shops!

Lulus

Lulus offers a variety of options for dresses, ranging from long to short. Their styles vary from formal to casual, featuring monochrome, lace, and floral patterns. Alongside dresses, Lulus offers shoes and heels that perfectly complement your outfit. The store is also well-known for its fast shipping and superior packaging.

Lucy in the Sky

Lucy in the Sky is known as one of the best places for teen girls to shop for dresses to make you stand out on HoCo night. Their styles are unique and trendy, and their dresses are often embellished with sequins and trendy colors! If you’re looking for a fun but stylish dress for the day, consider Lucy in the Sky. This store also sells jewelry, including earrings, necklaces, and rings.

Windsor

Windsor is overall quite similar to Lulus in terms of their dresses and patterns; however, their options tend to be more revealing. Depending on the weather, you can always wear a fun coat or shawl with your dress. If you are looking for a more mature look for your event, Windsor is the ideal location.

Dillard’s

Dillard’s is an online store offering a wide selection of clothing articles for both men and women. They sell an assortment of dresses, some of which are featured in other stores listed in this article. If you aren’t sure what style you are looking for, or need other accessories to pair with your look, Dillard’s would be a perfect fit

JJ’s House

JJ’s House was designed specifically for dresses on formal occasions such as weddings and fancy dinners. However, their clothing options are very elegant and well-suited for more formal events such as banquets and award ceremonies. As a result, their dresses are often a bit more expensive, with most listed at over $100. If you’re looking for a modest evening look, JJ’s House would be an excellent option, but be sure to consider your budget.

The Secret to Building a Beautiful Cottagecore Fashion Style https://www.girlspring.com/the-secret-to-building-a-beautiful-cottagecore-fashion-style/ https://www.girlspring.com/the-secret-to-building-a-beautiful-cottagecore-fashion-style/#respond Fri, 22 Aug 2025 21:45:04 +0000 https://www.girlspring.com/?p=35206 Get the cottagecore look with natural fabrics, earthy colors, and vintage-inspired pieces. Build your dreamy wardrobe with these styling tips.

The post The Secret to Building a Beautiful Cottagecore Fashion Style appeared first on GirlSpring.

]]>
Cottagecore fashion brings fairy-tale romance to your everyday wardrobe. This dreamy aesthetic captures the charm of countryside living, even if you’re just going to school. You can create stunning cottagecore outfits that feel both timeless and trendy without spending tons of money or completely overhauling your closet.

The key lies in understanding which pieces work best together and how to style them for maximum impact. Building a cottagecore fashion aesthetic takes some planning, but the results feel magical and authentically you.

Choose the Right Fabrics and Colors

Natural fabrics form the foundation of any cottagecore wardrobe. Cotton, wool, and especially linen create the perfect texture and drape for this romantic style. Linen clothes are always in style, and they work beautifully for cottagecore looks because they have that effortless, lived-in quality that makes outfits feel authentic rather than costume-like.

Stick to earthy, muted colors that you might find while wandering through a meadow. Think sage green, cream, dusty pink, warm brown, and soft lavender. These shades complement each other beautifully and create cohesive outfits, even when you mix and match different pieces.

Master the Art of Layering

Cottagecore style thrives on thoughtful layering that looks effortless but cozy. Start with a basic piece, like a simple dress or blouse, then add a cardigan, vest, or vintage-style blazer.

The trick is creating visual interest without looking bulky. Choose layers in complementary colors and varying textures. A chunky knit cardigan over a flowing floral dress creates beautiful contrast, while a linen vest over a cotton blouse keeps things light and breezy.

Focus on Key Wardrobe Staples

Certain pieces appear again and again in successful cottagecore wardrobes. Midi and maxi dresses with floral prints or solid colors in natural fabrics serve as perfect base pieces. High-waisted skirts paired with tucked-in blouses create that vintage-inspired silhouette that cottagecore lovers adore.

Cardigans and knit sweaters add instant coziness to any outfit. Look for ones with interesting details like wooden buttons, cable knit patterns, or cropped lengths. These pieces work year-round and instantly transform basic outfits into cottagecore looks.

Create Your Dreamy Wardrobe

Cottagecore fashion celebrates simplicity, comfort, and connection to nature. And thankfully, you don’t need to spend your whole paycheck to enjoy the cottagecore vibe.

Start with a few key staples and build your cottagecore wardrobe slowly. Mix vintage finds with modern pieces that capture the aesthetic. Most importantly, choose items that make you feel confident and comfortable in your own unique style.

At just 23, Sophia Kianni is already reshaping the way we shop and think about fashion. As the co-founder of Phia, a browser extension that uses AI to help shoppers find more affordable and sustainable alternatives, Kianni is blending tech, purpose, and personal passion into something powerful. In this exclusive interview with GirlSpring, Sophia opens up about her
journey from Stanford student to tech founder, the challenges of launching a startup, and the importance of momentum, mentorship, and mission-driven innovation. Her story is a reminder that you don’t have to have it all figured out to make a difference, you just have to be bold enough to start.

July 30, 2025 @ 11:00 AM

Natalyn Baker: What exactly is Phia?

Sophia Kianni: Phia is essentially the Google Flights for fashion. It’s a mobile browser extension that acts as a shopping companion. When you’re browsing online, Phia helps you find the exact item—or similar ones—across more than 40,000 sites, often at lower prices. So with just one click, you can compare alternatives and find the best deals.

Baker: I love it. I already have the extension downloaded and it’s been surprisingly helpful even for household items! My friend wanted a Smeg toaster, and I found it for a better price through Phia.

Kianni: That’s amazing! My mom actually used Phia to buy a toaster too, it’s always fun seeing how people use it beyond just fashion.

photo of sophia kianni and phoebe gates

Baker: It really is so handy! What inspired you and Phoebe Gates to start Phia?

Kianni: Phoebe and I were college roommates at Stanford, and we bonded over our love for secondhand shopping. We took a generative AI class together and discovered that out of 30 students, only two had ever shopped secondhand. Most didn’t know where to shop or didn’t want to spend time navigating multiple sites. That sparked the idea: we wanted to build a tool that
made secondhand shopping just as convenient as retail. Phia helps users find secondhand alternatives instantly—supporting sustainability while also saving people time and money.

Baker: When you imagine the future of Phia, what excites you the most? Are there any risks you’re taking that you’re particularly proud of?

Kianni: I’m really excited about turning Phia into a personalized AI shopping assistant. Right now, we focus on universal needs, saving time and money, but we want Phia to eventually learn each user’s unique preferences. Whether it’s fast shipping, a strong return policy, or ethical brands, we want the experience to feel totally custom. We’ve also introduced features like “Save to Favorites” and a beta for price-drop alerts. So users can set a custom alert, like, notify me when this item is 30% off, and we’ll track and notify them.

Baker: Fashion is always evolving. How does Phia stay true to its values of sustainability and affordability while competing with fast fashion?

Kianni: Fast fashion is popular because it’s cheap and convenient. So our goal is to make sustainable shopping just as easy—if not easier. With Phia, you can find secondhand alternatives in one click, without extra effort. We also try to show users that secondhand doesn’t mean lower quality. In fact, it’s often better. You can afford brands that might’ve seemed out of reach, and
their clothes last longer. It’s about shifting mindsets—from fast and disposable to thoughtful and long-term.

Baker: You made a bold choice to leave school to launch Phia, but still completed your degree. Congratulations on graduating! If your journey were a story, what would its title be?

Kianni: Thank you! I’d probably title it Momentum. Early on, it felt like I was pushing a rock uphill—starting my nonprofit, working with the UN, balancing school. But once things started clicking, it felt like that rock gained momentum and started rolling on its own. That momentum has carried me through launching Phia, and it’s been amazing to watch it grow.

Baker: That’s such a powerful metaphor. Do you think having it all figured out is a myth? What advice would you give to girls who feel like they’re falling behind?

Kianni: Absolutely, it’s a myth. No one has it all figured out. Even the most successful people I know have doubts and uncertainty. The key is to enjoy the process, not just focus on outcomes. You’ll always be figuring things out—so make sure the day-to-day feels meaningful.

Baker: What mindset has helped you navigate doubt, pressure, or rejection?

Kianni: For me, it’s viewing feedback, especially the tough kind, as a gift. We host product dinners every two weeks and invite women to share honest feedback. Some of it is hard to hear, but it’s incredibly helpful. It’s how we improve. If someone takes the time to tell us what’s not working, it means they care. That mindset keeps me going.

Baker: That’s such a healthy way to approach criticism. My last question is for the teen girl out there with a big idea but fear is holding her back, what would you say to her?

Kianni: Take the leap. You’ll never regret swinging and missing, but you might regret never trying. Especially when you’re young, you have nothing to lose. Even failure teaches you something. I’ve had things blow up in my face, but each one made me stronger. If everything burned down tomorrow, I’d still have what I’ve learned, and I could start again, smarter. Just
start. Learn. Try. Repeat.

Baker: That’s so motivating. Are there any final thoughts you’d like to share?

Kianni: I’d say: build strong friendships and find great mentors. Your relationships are everything. And in startups, your team is your company, so surrounding yourself with passionate, thoughtful people will set you up for success.

Baker: Thank you so much for this. This has been such a valuable and inspiring conversation. I really appreciate your time, and I know our readers will too!

Kianni: Thank you, Natalyn. I really enjoyed this, it was such a pleasure. Best of luck with everything!

]]>
So, it’s finally the summer. You’re looking forward to laying out in the sun, hanging with your besties, and taking some time to yourself. But the summer is good for something else too, and we all know what it is…. glowing up. No, I don’t mean playing with glow sticks. I mean glow up. Urban Dictionary defines glow up as “when someone becomes really attractive after they hit puberty.” Now maybe you’re thinking to yourself “I’m past puberty! I missed my glow up time!” No need to fret, my friend! It is NEVER too late to glow up. And summer is the perfect time to play with exciting new looks and experiment with summer outfit ideas! You have a couple months off from seeing everyone at school, so you can come back looking completely different. Without further ado, I present to you, how to glo up this summer.

Visit a hairstylist

Visiting a hairstylist is one of the easiest (and most fun!) ways to change your whole look in a single day. A new haircut can completely change your appearance and face shape, so a good hairstyle is a must. It’s important to visit a hairstylist so that you can ask a professionals opinion on what hair color and cut will look best with your look! Make sure if you set an appointment to bring photos of the hair you want, so your stylist will know exactly what you’re going for.

Experiment with make up

If you’re a girl and you’ve never experimented with make up before, it can really change your appearance! One of the best ways to get exposure to make up and how to learn some tips is by the magical and wonderful world of no other than Youtube. You can simply search “Make up tutorial” on Youtube, and millions of videos will pop up. The good news with the summer is that you have plenty of time to practice and perfect your look! That way, if a makeup tutorial goes wrong, you can just wash it right off and nobody even saw! And if you decide you don’t like wearing make up, then it makes your life even easier!

Get healthy

Something good for your body, skin, and mental health is deciding to get healthy! Getting healthy can be as easy as deciding to work out a few days a week, or limiting the amount of junk food you eat. The healthier you become, the better you will feel! Plus being healthy helps you live your best life, so this one should be near the top of your list.

Take care of your body

Whether it be through skin care, working out or taking time to yourself, taking care of your own body can make a huge difference. From treating yourself to a mani pedi, finding a toothpaste that whitens your teeth, or even finding the perfect shade of self-tanner, taking care of your body has a huge impact on the way you look. This means going to the doctor, dentist, dermatologist- you name it! Your body is all you’ve got- so treat it with some respect!

Become confident with who you are

If you have any sort of transformation this summer before coming back to school, let it be this- learn to be confident in your own skin! You don’t have to look any specific way to “glo up” because glowing up should be the way you feel about yourself. If you learn to love the reflection in the mirror, it will translate into the way other people see you!

Caring for your hair does not have to be expensive. However, it can be tedious to nurture it, especially if you want it to become full and healthy. There are natural remedies and routines you can incorporate into your day to ensure that your hair gets the attention it needs. Hair care goes beyond purchasing the latest products, as it also includes what you eat and the protection you provide for your hair. In this guide, you will learn some of the DIY tips you can use to care for your hair.

Diet and Lifestyle

Your diet is an underrated hack for growing full and healthy hair. Eating a balanced diet containing omega-3 fatty acids, proteins, vitamins, and minerals goes a long way in making your hair healthy. Salmon, berries, nuts, and leafy greens should be incorporated into your diet for better results. You should also get an adequate amount of sleep, as stress affects hair health. During sleep, the body repairs hair damage, which boosts your hair health. You should also consider managing your stress and engaging in stress-free activities during leisure. Stress contributes to hair loss and must be managed adequately to protect your hair’s health.

Homemade Masks with Deep Nourishment

Homemade masks with nutritional benefits can be applied directly to the hair and scalp. These masks promote growth, help your hair retain moisture, and fight hair breakage. The masks should follow a routine for you to enjoy the benefits, and they include:

  • Apply coconut oil to dry areas around the scalp and leave overnight. Shampoo your hair in the morning for deep repair and conditioning.
  • Run water over your hair and ensure it is thoroughly wet. Apply mayonnaise on your hair and wear a shower cap for 20 minutes before washing. This helps your hair become softer and improves moisture.
  • Add honey to water and apply to your hair for thirty minutes before rinsing. This helps your hair attract and retain moisture.

Gentle Cleansing

Cleansing your hair helps to prevent excessive dryness and damage. Focus your shampoo washing on your scalp rather than your hair. Ensure your shampoo has all the nutrients you need for healthy hair. You should also use sulphate-free shampoo to prevent the stripping of your hair’s natural oils. Baking soda and diluted apple cider vinegar are natural cleansers that you can use on your hair to maintain scalp PH balance and remove buildup.

Scalp and Oil Treatments

While these can be done at home, they are best done with the help of a hair care professional. If you do not have a dedicated hair specialist, googling “hair salon near me” is a good way to find options near you. Some of the ingredients necessary for these treatments, such as peppermint oil, are readily available at hair salons. These treatments include:

  • Coconut oil, peppermint oil, and sugar can be mixed to form a scalp scrub. This scrub exfoliates and moisturizes your scalp, thereby eliminating dryness.
  • Grind Fenugreek seeds into a paste and apply to your hair for 30 minutes before rinsing. This helps replenish proteins and provides vitamin nourishment.

Endnote

To get the best results from the tips we have provided, you must be consistent with their application. Devise a schedule and routines that allow you to care for your hair appropriately. Do not forget that your diet plays an important role in the health of your hair. Ensure your food choices reflect your commitment to caring for your hair. When necessary, seek the help of hair professionals for proper application and consultations.

The “no-makeup makeup” trend has totally taken over TikTok, YouTube, and beauty aisles everywhere—and it’s not hard to see why. These days, all it takes is a swipe of balm blush, a flick of brow gel, and a light layer of tinted moisturizer to create a fresh, barely-there look that highlights your natural features instead of hiding them.

Gen Z has flipped the script on heavy contouring and cakey foundations by leaning into dewy skin, soft peachy lips, and subtle glows that show off rather than mask your real skin. For inspiration, think of Hailey Bieber’s signature makeup looks like the viral “strawberry girl” or “sugar plum fairy” aesthetic—chic, minimal, and totally doable.

Whether you’re just starting out in the world of beauty or you’re looking for a way to simplify your everyday makeup routine, here are four beginner-friendly tips to help you master the art of the no-makeup makeup look.

  1. Prep with sunscreen

Photo CreditEvery great makeup look starts with great skin, and sunscreen is a must-have in any beauty routine. As we’ve mentioned before, sunscreen isn’t just for beach days—it helps prevent sunburn, evens out skin tone, reduces hyperpigmentation, and promotes smoother texture (which is key for that glass-skin vibe).

If you want a lightweight sunscreen you can wear every day, try the Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Liquid Sunscreen SPF 70. It’s dermatologist-approved, non-greasy, and disappears into your skin like a dream. If you’re looking to double up on sun protection and sheer coverage, La Roche-Posay Anthelios Mineral Tinted Fluid SPF 40 is a great pick that evens out your skin tone while keeping you protected.

  1. Fluff the brows

If you only do one thing for your no-makeup makeup look, make it your brows. Polished, fluffy brows instantly pull your face together, define your eyes, and give that “I woke up like this” glow. For a simple yet sculpted brow, tried-and-true makeup products like Benefit’s Precisely My Brow Gel is a game changer. This lightweight formula adds color, shape, and hold all in one swipe. It gives a natural, fluffy finish while keeping your brows in place all day, which you can purchase on QVC.

Use the flat side of the applicator to brush upward in short strokes. Then, flip to the domed side to sculpt and shape. If you have any sparse areas, fill them in using Benefit Goof Proof Brow Pencil; it’s beginner-friendly and super precise.

  1. Opt for glowy blush

Blush is the secret weapon of any minimalist look—it brings life back to your face in the most natural way. While foundation and concealer work to even things out, blush adds a healthy flush of color to your cheeks. Glowy, dewy blush is especially trendy right now, and luckily, you don’t need to buy a new palette to get the look.

If you only have matte blush, try this trick: apply a slightly more intense layer than usual (lighter pink on the apples of your cheeks, darker pink toward your temples), then take your foundation brush—with just the leftover product on it—and gently pat over the blush. This blends everything together while giving you a soft, luminous finish. Looking for a glowy blush from the start? Try e.l.f. Putty Blush for a dewy effect or Maybelline Fit Me Blush if you prefer a soft matte that’s easy to blend.

  1. Finish with a glossy lip

This year, forget the matte lipsticks; gloss is in. With just one swipe, gloss gives your lips a plump, hydrated look and adds just the right amount of polish to your barely-there makeup. The key is to go for a natural tint that enhances your existing lip color. We love Glossier’s Lip Gloss for its glassy shine and non-sticky finish. Another fave is the classic NYX Butter Gloss, which is affordable, super shiny, and available in tons of flattering shades like Tiramisu and Praline. For an even more natural look, layer a tinted lip balm like Burt’s Bees Tinted Lip Balm underneath for extra hydration.

With just a few simple steps and the right products, you can totally master the no-makeup makeup look and glow with confidence—no filter needed.
